The Ostomy Foundation mentors, educates, supports and empowers ostomates, family members, caregivers and others within the ostomy community. Through support networks, speaking engagements, social media and community programs, the nonprofit helps individuals navigate their journey while encouraging them to realize their full potential. The foundation also advocates for client rights and strives to eliminate misconceptions and stereotypes related to ostomy that exist for ostomates and in the general public. The organization works with clients of all ages and from all stages of illness. This includes pre-op and immediate post-op surgery care, and those who seek long-term assistance for continuing education and emotional support.

Ostomy surgery allows waste to exit the body through a surgically created diversion from the diseased area to an exterior pouch, which may also be referred to as a bag.

Reasons for this life-saving surgery may be, but are not limited to, cancer, ulcerative colitis (UC), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s Disease, birth defects and many other medical conditions.

The New Milford Commission on the Arts funds and encourages the development and appreciation of artistic and cultural activities which includes but is not limited to music, theatre, visual arts, and literature. Our annual events include an Arts Festival, the Carol Sing on the Village Green, and the Edwin Kinkade Summer Concerts on the Green in August.

As part of their commitment to our community, they offer the Virtual Dementia Tour FREE of charge. The Tour enables families, caregivers, and first responders to experience for themselves the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face. It uses the experience to provide better person-centered care. Their home care professionals undergo an extensive hiring process to ensure that their individuals are provided with reliable, competent, and caring staff. They provide their field staff with ongoing in-services and as-needed in-services according to customers’ needs and conditions. When they complete an assessment, they gather as much information as possible to find the right match. Their Care Coordinators will identify two/three staff members to introduce to the family/client. Since 1923, the Garden Club of New Milford has been an active, non-profit organization serving our town. From planting trees, landscaping public places, designing gardens, educating, exhibiting, and funding projects, the club has been influential in caring for the community in which we live.

Club meetings address a variety of topics related to gardening, conservation, and public service while providing fun and social interaction with friendly people from our town.

The John Pettibone Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1949 in memory of John Pettibone, who for 42 years developed, guided, and inspired the New Milford public schools. At one time, Mr. Pettibone supervised two dozen one-room schoolhouses in our area.

Friends and former students of Mr. Pettibone created a memorial fund as a memorial to the former school superintendent. Founders included Irma Ambler, Howard Peck, Anne Dube, Bessie Cornwall, Merrill Golden, Barbara Weaver, Ralph Dodd, and Ethel Prince.

John Pettibone had a vision, a mission, and a deep personal interest in the fullest development of the abilities of every student. He demanded excellence from students and required the community to support school initiatives. His educational leadership in New Milford is renowned.

In his memory, the John Pettibone Memorial Scholarship Fund celebrates his legacy by granting scholarships, fulfilling his desire that no worthy student be deprived of a college education.

The JPMSF can also act as a selection committee on behalf of local businesses and individuals that would like to support a student’s study of a specific field or to honor someone's memory. Ongoing scholarships include the memories of Tim Conn and Mike LePage. Businesses and individuals that donate over $1000 can get recognition at New Milford High School's Scholarship Night.

Scholarship funds are raised through individual and business contributions, as well as from our endowment fund.

As a 501(c)(3), all donations are tax-deductible. In addition to private donations, we work with local foundations, including the Ellen Knowles Harcourt Foundation to screen applicants and award scholarships on their behalf.

All donations go towards awards that help eligible college and trade-school-bound students achieve their goals of higher education.

The Connecticut Choral Society has been dedicated to the performance of choral music of the highest artistic quality since its inception in 1980. Serving the communities of Southbury, Woodbury, and Newtown, the neighboring towns of western Connecticut, and beyond, we seek to stimulate greater appreciation and enjoyment of choral music, both for the singer and our audiences.
While the pandemic delayed our plans for a 40th Anniversary Gala season, we remained concerted in our efforts to find other ways to help our community. We enter this season with renewed purpose to once again have our voices united in music, strength, compassion, and peace and to share the magic that happens when we come together with our community. The 22-23 season, OUR VOICES UNITED, offers a diverse program for singers and audiences alike.
From modest beginnings (less than 30 people attended the first rehearsal), we have grown in stature and accomplishment to become a renowned chorus of singers hailing from over 20 towns in the region. We have appeared in Carnegie Hall (with the New York Pops Orchestra), Lincoln Center, Yale University’s Woolsey Hall, and have toured England, Canada, Europe, Australia, and China—but most importantly, we remain dedicated to bringing beautiful and inspiring works to our local audiences in Connecticut. We are known for our high musical performance standards, outstanding contribution to the arts, and community outreach.

Pilobolus began at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire in 1971. Moses Pendleton, an English literature major and cross-country skier; Jonathan Wolken, a philosophy major and fencer; and Steve Johnson, a pre-med student and pole vaulter were enrolled in a dance composition class taught by Alison Becker Chase. In that class, they created their first dance, which they titled “Pilobolus” —and a legacy of movement and magic was born.

Named after Pilobolus crystallinus, a light loving fungi whose spores accelerate from 0–45 mph in the first millimeter of their flight, the group went on to create dozens of dance works with its founding members: Robby Barnett, Alison Chase, Martha Clarke, Moses Pendleton, Michael Tracy, and Jonathan Wolken.

Pilobolus is now under the direction of the founder-succeeding leadership of Executive/Co-Artistic Director Renée Jaworski and Artistic Director Matt Kent prepared to bring Pilobolus into its next half century.

NMRR is a volunteer organization that works to help integrate refugee families into the New Milford community. We partner with Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS), a non-profit based in New Haven that has been bringing immigrant families to CT for 35 years. IRIS chooses the family and brings them to CT, and we take over from there. We usually work with a family from six months to one year, and our goal is to help them become financially independent by the end of that time.
