We are a volunteer fire department located in the Northville district of New Milford, CT. A group of dedicated men and women, we serve the immediate residents of Northville but readily respond to requests for mutual aid to surrounding towns.

In 2023, The Nature Conservancy marked 50 years of working at the Sunny Valley Preserve. Donated by the late George D. Pratt Jr. of Bridgewater in a series of transfers from 1973 to 1979, Sunny Valley Farm was originally purchased by Pratt’s father in 1934. Over the years, Pratt went on to protect more than a dozen separate pieces of open or wooded lands in the area from developers before donating them to TNC to be protected while supporting sustainable farming and education.
Today, TNC’s Sunny Valley Preserve boasts a variety of topography, geology and natural habitats along both sides of the Housatonic River Valley, including large stands of hemlock and mixed second growth hardwood forest that supports diverse wildlife and biological communities. Throughout its 1,850 acres of farmland, forests, wetlands and meadows – spread out across 19 parcels of land – visitors can hike on trails and learn about nature, land management and environmentally compatible farming at several observation sites.
Since assuming ownership, TNC has initiated surveys to develop an inventory of the preserve’s wildlife and plants. TNC also created habitat to support New England cottontails, which were formerly listed as a federally threatened species but are in recovery thanks to this type of conservation effort.

Back in 1981 Christian Trost and Avivah Wathal sold their business in New Jersey and planned to retire in New Fairfield, CT. One week into retirement they were walking down Bank Street in New Milford, CT and saw a store front for rent. Since they had some inventory of toys and gifts left from the sale in NJ and since they were only 50 something they came out of retirement to open Nordica. It was full of unique gifts from Europe for adults as well as a children’s section complete with a Brio Train table,Playmobil, Lego and many more familiar toys and games. In 2001 Joe’s Salon, which was upstairs from Nordica, wanted to expand to both floors.
Nordica moved from Bank Street to Main Street and became Nordica Toys. The adult gifts went away and the store became about toys and games for kids.
In 2002, they were really ready to retire. That’s when Marie McCarthy was introduced to the couple. Ms. McCarthy worked with them through Christmas learning the business and on March 1, 2003 became the new owner of Nordica Toys.
Nordica Toys is open 7 days a week year round. The store motto is “Your One Stop Toy Store”.We have what your need,we offer free gift wrapping,we offer
birthday cards and we get you out quickly to the party with wrapped gift in hand.It’s not uncommon to go to a birthday party and see more than 50% of the
