Family Nature Walk @ Deer Pond Farm in Sherman

Meet us at Deer Pond Farm with Sanctuary Manager/Naturalist Lori Lichtenauer and Diane NizlekCT Audubon Naturalist to enjoy a family-friendly nature walk. We will use our senses to explore wildlife habitats, identify plants and animals, and we will discuss how to see the forest for the trees! All ages welcome.

SUMMER BIRD BEHAVIORS (CLASS & WALK)

Have you ever wondered how birds survive the “dog days” of summer? Join us at Deer Pond Farm for our Summer Bird Behaviors program. Starting in the classroom, avian expert Lori Lichtenauer will discuss how parent birds care for fledglings, bird molting patterns, when and how birds prepare for their long-distance migratory journeys! We will hit the trails for the last hour of the program.

FORESTRY HIKE

Learn about and see forest management practices with Sanctuary Manager/Naturalist and CT certified forester Lori Lichtenauer. The history of CT’s forests will be discussed and how past land management has impacted the forests of today. We will hike about 4 miles to some of our management areas where we will discuss how sustainable forestry practices can increase wildlife biodiversity and overall health of forested landscapes.

BIRD & NATURE WALK @ Deer Pond Farm

Discover the flowers, birds, and butterflies of Deer Pond Farm with Sanctuary Manager / Naturalist Lori Lichtenauer. Starting in our pollinator garden, we will discuss the phenology (seasonal cycles) of native flowering plants and how this impacts the insect and bird communities. Then we will explore the life in and around our nature preserve! $5 members, $10 non-members

We have a large variety of items for both children and adults, including figurines, mugs, vases, luminaries, plates, and more!

$10 admission covers admission, 2 donuts, and a beverage ( coffee, water, or juice)

*The cost of your pottery or other project is additional and will be paid for on the event day.  Projects range from $18 to $75 – there is something for everyone!

Stoneware Flower Workshop

Create Beautiful ceramic flowers to decorate your home or garden.

Our instructor shows you the basics of hand-building and guides you step-by-step through the featured project. *Each participant will receive 1.5 pounds of clay, which is enough for one 10″ flower or two 3″ – 4″ flowers.

$50 per participant includes your project materials*, instruction,  2 kiln firings, and a return visit to glaze.
