Dahlias – Not your Mama’s Passé Flowers

The Garden Club of New Milford’s May program will be presented by Michelle MacKinnon. MacKinnon has many certifications including being a UConn-certified Advanced Master Gardener. She is a Connecticut Chapter of the Northeast Organic Farm Association (CCNOFA), Ecological Landscape Alliance, and Sierra Club member. In addition, she is a lecturer at the NY Botanical Garden and the Berkshire Botanical Garden
She also writes and publishes articles for such publications as The Quinnehtukqut, Sierra Club’s CT Chapter, Newtown Bee, and her own Garden advice letter.
MacKinnon will share tips on selecting, planting, lifting, and storing Dahlia tubers. Ms. MacKinnon will start her program immediately following the business meeting of the Garden Club ~ 2:00 p.m.
FYI – Dahlia is a genus of tuberous plants that are members of the Asteraceae family, which also includes the sunflower, daisy, chrysanthemum, zinnia, and, of course, aster.
