Description
Durkin’s began humbly in a small barn on Mallory Street in Danbury, Connecticut, back in 1904. It was founded by Patrick Durkin, an Irish immigrant with a craftsman’s hands, and his American-born son Denis, who shared his father’s belief that honest work could build a better life. What started as a shop producing supplies for Danbury’s world-renowned hatting industry quickly evolved as the family recognized a growing need for shading and outdoor products in the region.
In 1955, Denis passed the company to his son, William Durkin, and to his daughter Rita’s husband, Bernard Ginty — marking the moment when the Ginty family became part of the legacy. By 1976, the Ginty family fully acquired the business as William retired, continuing the tradition with the same pride and commitment that had defined the company from the very beginning.
Over the decades, Durkin’s moved through several locations in town before settling in 1999 in its current home on Beaver Brook Road: a 16,000 sq. ft. design and fabrication facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology. This space allows us to control every step of production, ensuring our customers receive a superior product crafted with precision, delivered on time, and priced competitively.
What began with one family in 1904 has grown into five generations of craftsmanship, innovation, and unwavering dedication. Today, Durkin’s is recognized as one of the premier outdoor living and shading companies in the Northeast — a reputation we’re proud to uphold. With a customer satisfaction rate exceeding 99%, we like to think the generations before us would be proud.
And as we carry this legacy forward, one thing remains unchanged:
Every project we deliver is built on more than skill — it’s built on the heart, history, and heritage of our family.
