SUMMARY:Gallery Opening
DESCRIPTION:Village Center for the Arts Presents: “Where the Light Lingers” Paintings by Alison Litke\nOpening Reception: Saturday\, May 2 | 6:30–8:00 PM\nExhibition on view through May 30 \nVillage Center for the Arts is pleased to present a solo exhibition of recent work by Connecticut artist Alison Litke\, opening Saturday\, May 2 from 6:30–8:00 PM. This free event is open to the public\, with additional viewing available through May 30. \nAlison’s work is rooted in a deep appreciation for the quiet beauty of the natural world. Inspired by the ever-changing light playing across Connecticut’s landscapes and waterways\, her paintings capture fleeting moments. The fog lifting off the water\, morning dew catching the sun\, and the shifting drama of stormy skies. \nA lifelong Connecticut resident\, Alison began drawing at an early age\, sketching trees\, flowers\, and animals as a child before expanding into sculpture in clay and wood during her high school years. She continued her artistic studies at Wesleyan University\, later turning her focus to painting in 2008. Working primarily in acrylics\, she found the medium allowed her to quickly and intuitively respond to the subtle nuances of light and atmosphere. \nDaily walks through local hills and farm roads\, as well as time spent kayaking on nearby lakes\, provide an ongoing source of inspiration. Her work reflects not only what she sees\, but what she experiences in moments of stillness\, movement\, and connection within the natural environment. \nThis exhibition offers viewers an opportunity to experience\, reflect\, and reconnect with the familiar yet ever-changing landscapes that surround us in the light that lingers. \nVillage Center for the Arts is located at 12 Main Street\, New Milford\, CT. \nFor more information\, please visit villagecenterarts.org or contact us (860) 354-4318.

SUMMARY:The Liberty Bell - Symbol of American Freedom
DESCRIPTION:In the early days of America\, bells served as vital communication tools for communities\, ringing\nout for significant events like fires\, funerals\, and festivals. The Liberty Bell\, cast in England\,\nweighing over a ton\, was brought to Philadelphia in 1752. Despite its initial lackluster sound and\ndevastating crack during its initial assessment\, the determined colonists melted it down and\nrecast it multiple times.\nDuring the Revolution\, the bell was cleverly hidden from the British and narrowly escaped being\nsold for scrap. A visionary recognized its monumental significance and rescued it\, transforming\nthe Liberty Bell into a cherished national treasure. Today\, it stands proudly among the six most\niconic symbols of America. John Cilio explores the historical accounts that have made the\nLiberty Bell an enduring emblem of American tradition\, reminding us of the resilience and spirit\nthat define our nation. \nSpeaker Bio: John Cilio\nJohn Cilio is an engaging historical storyteller\, author\, and researcher who has captivated\naudiences with his tales of the past for over 15 years. He is an active member of the\nOrganization of American Historians\, the Association for the Study of Connecticut History\, and\nthe Connecticut League of Museums. He has shared his knowledge through numerous articles\nin national magazines and newspapers and continues to inspire and educate with his\ncaptivating storytelling and in-depth research. Get ready to be transported through time and\nexperience history through period stories and vintage photographs.
