SUMMARY:From Connecticut to Capitol Hill: The Statesman's Journey of Roger Sherman
DESCRIPTION:Known for his sharp wit and intellect\, Sherman was a masterful debater and negotiator. From humble\nbeginnings as a shoemaker\, shop owner\, and surveyor\, Roger Sherman became one of the largest\nlandowners in Litchfield County. Fundamentally self-educated\, he began his political career in New\nMilford\, CT\, and elevated his influence with his election to the Connecticut General Assembly in 1755. As\nthe American Revolution approached\, Sherman was a steadfast supporter of independence from British\nrule. He played a vital role in the Stamp Act Congress\, and with his deep understanding of politics and\ncommitment to serving the public\, he participated in virtually every step of American independence.\nWith a wealth of life experiences and a keen legal mind\, he had the unique opportunity to sign all four of\nthe most important documents in American history!\nHe often helped mediate disputes among his fellow founding fathers\, using his knack for seeing both\nsides of an argument to find common ground. His contributions were incredibly valuable to the young\nnation. On a personal note\, his life was just as fascinating. Join our storyteller\, John Cilio\, who resides in\nSherman\, CT\, as he dives into the life of this true American hero—a man dedicated to serving his country\nand improving the lives of his fellow citizens!

SUMMARY:Aging in Place: How to Protect Assets and Stay at Home
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that Connecticut is among the top three states with the highest costs for nursing home and long-term care? That’s why it is so important to do your due diligence and protect everything that you have worked SO hard for – and if possible – to do so while remaining in the comfort of your home! In this program\, we will help you better understand how to avoid putting your-hard earned assets at risk in a way that can best position you to stay in your own home and age in place. Specifically\, you’ll learn about Medicaid and other public benefit programs the state has to offer as well as strategies that married or single people can use to protect their assets. This is a collaboration between the NM Senior Center and NMPL.
