SUMMARY:Spring Kintsugi & Sip
DESCRIPTION:A unique workshop based on the ancient Japanese practice of Kintsugi (repairing broken pottery) led by Art Therapist Tara DeLuca. \n“Instead of masking the flaws\, a Japanese way of seeing things is that by highlighting the cracks\, pieces become stronger\, more beautiful\, and open to new opportunities \nJoin us for a unique workshop based on emulating the ancient Japanese practice of Kintsugi led by Art Therapist Tara DeLuca. \nDuring the workshop\, you will connect with your bowl\, break it\, confront the damage\, and take ownership of the pieces that remain by gluing them back together. \nThe bowl will be changed forever\, just as each person is through their personal experiences. \nWhat was once broken does not always stay that way \nBroken\, repaired\, and new \nCalming\, shared experience\, self-care \nThe concept expresses how the passage of time can further increase the beauty in the imperfect. \n“Instead of masking the flaws\, a Japanese way of seeing things is that by highlighting the cracks\, the piece becomes stronger\, more beautiful\, and easier to use.” \nKintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery. If a bowl is broken\, rather than discarding the pieces\, they are reassembled and the cracks are adorned with gold. There are no attempts to hide the damage\, instead\, it is highlighted. The practice represents the idea that beauty can be found in imperfection. The breakage is an opportunity to create something new\, and stronger. \nParticipants are encouraged to reflect upon their own lives and determine what should be embellished and celebrated\, and what may no longer be relevant\, as they kintsugi their bowls. \nPlease note finished kintsugi projects are for decorative purposes only – these items are not food-safe. \nDetails:\nMay 15\n6:30-9 pm\nAges 18+\n$68 per person \nBYOB and light refreshments or snacks are welcome.

Participants of all ages\, from young students to senior citizens\, joined forces to craft these beautiful poppies. Each poppy created was a testament to the dedication and gratitude felt by the community towards veterans. \nPresidential Award Recognition \nThis remarkable effort did not go unnoticed. The project was awarded the prestigious Presidential Award from the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut. This recognition was a testament to the project’s impact and the community’s commitment to honoring veterans through creative expression. \nCentennial Celebration \nThe creation of these poppies coincided with a significant milestone for the Garden Club—their 100th anniversary year. This added a layer of significance to the project\, as it became both a celebration of the Club’s history and a tribute to those who have defended the nation’s freedom over the years. \nA Symbol of Remembrance \nThe handcrafted poppies serve as a lasting symbol of remembrance and gratitude. They remind us of the sacrifices made by veterans and inspire future generations to honor their legacy. This project exemplifies how creativity and community spirit can come together to make a meaningful impact.
