In considering the medical and general health care needs in and around the Greater New Milford region, residents can rest easy, knowing that the ultimate in state-of-the-art treatment and facilities are right at their doorstep.

New Milford Hospital, an affiliate of Columbia- Presbyterian Medical Center (CPMC), is a full- service community hospital providing a broad range of medical, surgical and diagnostic New Milford Hospital - New Milford Connecticut Health Care services to the Greater New Milford area,and nearby New York State. It has one of the most modern physical plants in the state with highly technical, sophisticated equipment and an excellent trained medical staff. Community residents benefit from the hospital’s affiliation with Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center with an expanded range of medical expertise, diagnostic capacity and level of service.

New Milford Hospital offers comprehensive cancer services. The Columbia-Presbyterian affiliated Ambulatory Oncology Program provides state-of-the-art chemotherapy, associated oncology care, and the opportunity for individual cancer patients to participate in clinical trials of new drugs. Nurses are specially trained and certified in oncology nursing. In January 1999, in New Milford Hospital - New Milford Connecticut Health Care partnership with the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, opened a new center for radiation oncology services. It is staffed by radiation oncologists from the faculty of Columbia-Presbyterian who will serve full-time at New Milford Hospital. This allows cancer patients to receive comprehensive care and establish relationships with specialists within their own community.

The hospital’s emergency department, open 24-hours a day, is staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians. A paramedic intercept has been developed at no cost to patients or the towns. This bath serves and contributes to the well-being of the people in our community when a paramedic is automatically dispatched from the hospital in response to a 911 call.

In June 1998, an Athletic and Industrial Health Program opened in the Brookfield Health Center. The program offers acute injury management, industrial rehabilitation, physical examinations, drug screenings, work conditioning and work-site analysis. in addition, sports medicine and rehabilitation services are being offered.

The hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care including a Family Birthing Center, Women’s Imaging Center, One-Day Surgery Unit, CPMC-affiliated Ambulatory Oncology, mobile MIRI and 24-hour Emergency Department. Through its affiliation with the New Milford Visiting Nurse Association, the hospital ensures a continuity of patient care throughout its service area.

Over eight decades of quality nursing and attention to detail have earned New Milford VNA its reputation for excellence. We employ registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, licensed physical, speech and occupational therapists, and all of our home health aides are certified in the State of Connecticut. We provide a Home Care Program which includes skilled nursing, IV therapy, wound care, asthma care, diabetes education cardiac rehabilitation, medication monitoring, psychiatric nursing, among other skilled services. Our staff works closely with community doctors and hospitals to ensure a high quality continuum of care for our patients.

Another very important part of New Milford VNA’s mission is its Community Outreach Program. Each year we serve more than 2000 citizens of greater New Milford through our public health programs such as lead screenings for children, flu, pneumonia and Hepatitis B immunization programs, cholesterol screenings, senior vision testing, well child clinic for uninsured and underinsured school age children, blood pressure screenings, dental screenings for children and an extensive bereavement support program for adults, teenagers and children.

Since 1983 New Milford VNA has been caring for persons with terminal illness through its Hospice Program. These services, with a family-centered approach, are aimed at relieving physical and emotional suffering during the final stages of life. The goal of this treatment is to provide physical comfort, emotional and spiritual peace, and a sense of worth and dignity to the patients and their families. Our Hospice Program is State Licensed and Medicare Certified. Hospice services, which are coordinated by an interdisciplinary team of professionals and volunteers, include nursing, pain and symptom management, pastoral care, pharmaceutical, respite care and social work.

The New Milford VNA is a non-profit health care agency serving the residents of New Milford, Sherman, Bridgewater, Kent, Roxbury, Washington and Warren. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and direct payment for services. We receive community support from area towns, Housatonic Shepaug United Way, Inc. and through tax deductible gifts, bequests and memorial contributions. Accredited with Commendation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health care Organizations, we are members of the Connecticut Association of Home Care, the National Association of Home Care, the National Hospice and Palliative Care Association, and we are an affiliate of the New Milford Hospital Holding Corporation.

Danbury Hospital, located nearby, is a Sly accredited, not-for-profit regional teaching hospital. Its affiliation with both Yale University School of Medicine and New York Medical College provides the hospital with an association of over five hundred physicians and dentists- representing all specialties.

Using the latest technology in diagnosis and treatment, Danbury Hospital offers comprehensive care to residents throughout the area. In addition, the hospital provides extensive specialized services to women, children, and seniors. Included among the special programs available are coronary and medical - surgical, as well as neonatal intensive care, oncology, neuro-sciences, orthopedics, physical rehabilitation, chemical dependencies, and psychiatric treatment and services. There is a Family Birthing Center and outstanding medical and surgical outpatient services.

The 371-bed capacity of Danbury Hospital belies its overall size and capabilities. The institution provides an effective outreach system including ninny satellite facilities throughout the area. Danbury Hospital also provides educational opportunities to assist local communities with health and general wellness. There are consumer health information and materials available, health fairs, and a speakers’ bureau, providing speakers to local and area organizations on a myriad of health related issues. Sharon Hospital is an 82-bed, acute care community hospital located in the picturesque Northwest corner of Connecticut. The hospital and its affiliated 80-bed short-term, rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility, Sharon Health Care Center, provide a comprehensive Sharon Hospital - Greater New Milford Connecticut Area Health Care continuum of health care services to the community. Perhaps more obvious to the eye is the award-winning architectural design and function of the hospital’s 58,000 square foot addition, completed in 1995. In addition, several patient care areas were recently renovated, including the state-of-the-art Radiology Department, which now features a new Women’s Imaging Center. This area is dedicated exclusively to Mammography, Bone Densitometry and patient education on women's health issues.

In its most recent quarterly report, Press, Ganey, a national survey company, ranked Sharon Hospital’s Emergency Department number one in overall patient satisfaction in the State of Connecticut. The Emergency Department is staffed by emergency medicine specialists who provide a full spectrum of emergency and trauma care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Within the Department, the new Express Treatment Center provides rapid evaluation and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries.
